Matt Rytel’s Futsal Team wins the U17 US Futsal Cup

The 2014 US Futsal Cup was held in historic Annapolis, Maryland on December 19, 20 and 21, 2014. The tournament is considered one of the top national events (also attracting a club from Brazil and one from Bermuda) and represents some of the best competition available. In total there were 8 teams in the U17 bracket divided into 2 groups playing a 3 game round robin.

Matt's opening game was against the USFF National Blue squad. It was an evenly matched contest won by his team 5-3. The second game was against a very good team from Maryland called Pachua. Matt's team lost 7-3. The third round robin game saw his team winning 11-2 advancing to the semifinals as the second seed from their bracket.

In the semifinals they played an unbeaten DCFA team who earned the top seed by beating the USFF Red team. Matt opened the scoring just a few minutes into the match and his team played an excellent game against a skilled and disciplined opponent. They were skilled and organized, but lost out to the intensity and athleticism of Matt's team.

In the finals, his team led 6-3 at half. The second half began with a strong push from Pachua to draw even at 6-6 with about 9 minutes left. The boys kept their composure and responded with a 3 goal flurry leading 9-6 with about 3 minutes to go then managed the clock to win 9-6.

Matt Rytel, Arsenal U17 boys team, named to the USYF Great Lakes Regional futsal team

After attending the U.S. Youth Futsal ID camp, Matt was named to the USYF Great Lakes Regional futsal team (for the second year in a row). The ID camp was conducted by US Men's National Team Coach Keith Tozer and his staff. The Regional Teams will then prepare for the National ID camp held in July of 2015. Last year Matt showed well at the National camp, but failed to make the National team.  Making the National team remains one of his main goals in futsal.

The weekend of December 19-21 he will be playing with a select team of regional players in the US Futsal Cup in Annapolis, MD. This is an international tournament hosted by the USFF. This select team will by playing under the Barbaians banner and will be captained by Matt. The USFF National team will be there competing as well.
